Overview of the Characteristics of Centenary People in Bahia and Pernambuco

Resumo: This interinstitutional study aimed to describe the profile of centenary elderly people. To attain this objective a qualitative research carried out with 12 elderly people aged 95 or over using a questionnaire and an interview. The data were compared with the literature and showed a predominance of females, aged between 96 and 104 years old, widowed, retired. Hypertension was the most reported health problem and none of them practiced physical activity. Further studies are needed in this area.

Further studies are needed in this area. Este estudio interinstitucional tuvo como objetivo conocer el perfil de las personas mayores centenarias. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa realizada con 12 ancianos de 95 o más años, mediante cuestionario y entrevista. Los datos, comparados con la literatura, mostraron un predominio de mujeres, con edades entre 96 y 104 años, viudas, jubiladas. La hipertensión fue el problema de salud más reportado y ninguno de ellos practicaba actividad física. Se necesitan más estudios en esta área. Este estudo interinstitucional teve como objetivo conhecer o perfil de idosos centenários. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa desenvolvida com 12 idosos com idade igual ou superior a 95 anos, mediante utilização de questionário e entrevista. Os dados, comparados com a literatura, evidenciaram predomínio do sexo feminino, com idade entre 96 e 104 anos, viúvos, aposentados. A hipertensão foi o problema de saúde mais relatado e nenhum deles praticava atividade física.
