Resumo: In this study, we evaluate the effects of a psychoeducational intervention program, with 15 caregivers who assisted an elderly relative with Alzheimer´s disease, on their use of coping strategies, perceptions of burden and difficulties in caring. In comparison with the Control Group, the Intervention Group participants reported greater use of coping strategies, reduced burden and fewer caring difficulties. Replication studies are needed to confirm these results with larger and more heterogeneous samples. Keywords: Caregiver, Burden, Intervention.

Keywords: Caregiver, Burden, Intervention.En este estudio, se evaluó el impacto de un programa de intervención psicoeducativa en 15 cuidadores de ancianos con enfermedad de Alzheimer, en el uso de estrategias de afrontamiento, las percepciones de sobrecarga y las dificultades de cuidar. En comparación con los participantes en el grupo control, el grupo de intervención reportó un aumento en el uso de estrategias de afrontamiento, la reducción de los gastos generales y menos dificultades con cuidado. Se necesitan estudios de replicación para confirmar los resultados en muestras heterogéneas de mayor tamaño y más.Palabras clave: Cuidador; Sobrecarga; Intervención.Neste estudo, avaliamos os impactos de um programa psicoeducativo de intervenção, em 15 cuidadoras de idosos com doença de Alzheimer, sobre o uso de estratégias de coping, percepções de sobrecarga e as dificuldades de cuidar. Em comparação com as participantes do Grupo Controle, as do Grupo de Intervenção relataram maior uso de estratégias de coping, redução da sobrecarga e menos dificuldades com o cuidar.
