Older caregivers: perceptions about caring for others and the influence in the quality of life

Resumo: This article aims to characterize the socioeconomic profile of a group of elderly people who care for the elderly in the city of Santa Maria / RS and to analyze how these caregivers perceive their quality of life. The snowball technique was used to find the participants, with seven caregivers taking part in the research. There were findings regarding satisfaction with the caregiver occupation, the influence of the occupation on daily life and the understanding of caregiver support groups.

La técnica de bola de nieve se utilizó para encontrar a los participantes, con siete cuidadores que participaron en la investigación. Hubo hallazgos con respecto a la satisfacción con la ocupación del cuidador, la influencia de la ocupación en la vida diaria y la comprensión de los grupos de apoyo del cuidador. Este artigo tem como objetivos, caracterizar o perfil socioeconômico de um grupo de pessoas idosas que cuidam de idosos na cidade de Santa Maria, RS e analisar como esses cuidadores percebem a sua qualidade de vida. Utilizou-se da técnica da bola de neve para encontrar os participantes, sendo que sete cuidadores fizeram parte da pesquisa.
