Old age by old Bahians in the light of the Jungian concept of Senex/Puer: everyday life, friendships and retirement

Resumo: This study analyzed narratives of elderly people about their understanding of this stage of life from the concepts of Senex and Puer as developed by Jung. Six elderly people were interviewed about daily life, friendships and retirement. The results showed a tendency to experience the archetypal pole Senex resisting to changes, but also experiencing innovations in life, indicating the Puer pole. The two poles are concluded to be present in their lives, not only loss at this age.

The two poles are concluded to be present in their lives, not only loss at this age. Este estudio analizó las narrativas de las personas mayores sobre su comprensión de esta etapa de la vida, a la luz de los conceptos de Senex y Puer, desarrollados por Jung. Se entrevistó a seis personas mayores sobre la vida cotidiana, las amistades y la jubilación. Los resultados mostraron la tendencia a experimentar el polo arquetípico Senex resistiendo los cambios, pero también experimentando las novedades de la vida, lo que indica el polo Puer. En conclusión, los dos polos están presentes en sus vidas, sin pérdidas en esta etapa vital. Este estudo analisou narrativas de idosos quanto à sua compreensão desta etapa de vida, à luz dos conceitos de Senex e Puer, conforme desenvolvidos por Jung. Foram entrevistados seis idosos sobre vida cotidiana, amizades e aposentadoria. Os resultados mostraram a tendência a vivenciar o polo arquetípico Senex resistindo a mudanças, mas também experienciando as novidades da vida, o que indica o polo Puer.
