The expression of ageism in times of COVID-19: A theoretical reflection

Resumo: The way how a society understands and behaves in the face of the aging process is reflected in its own conceptions of aging. This article aimed to reflect the expression of ageism in Brazil during COVID-19, considering theories of human aging and different social organizations. It is concluded that a greater expression of this prejudice in Brazilian elderly is also due to a failure to enforce the access and rights laws of these elderly people.

It is concluded that a greater expression of this prejudice in Brazilian elderly is also due to a failure to enforce the access and rights laws of these elderly people. La forma en que una sociedad entiende y se comporta frente al proceso de envejecimiento se refleja en sus propias concepciones del envejecimiento. Este artículo tuvo como objetivo reflejar la expresión del ageismo en Brasil durante COVID-19, considerando las teorías del envejecimiento humano y las diferentes organizaciones sociales. Se concluye que una mayor expresión de este prejuicio en los brasileños de edad avanzada también se debe al incumplimiento de las leyes de acceso y derechos de estas personas mayores. A maneira como uma sociedade compreende o processo de envelhecimento, e se comporta frente a este, reflete nas suas próprias concepções de envelhecer. Este artigo teve por objetivo refletir a expressão do idadismo no Brasil durante a COVID-19, considerando as teorias do envelhecimento humano e as diferentes organizações sociais.
