A proposal of the Snoezelen approach in multisensory stimulation in the context of Gerontology – a reflective essay

Resumo: Through the senses of the body the human being is constituted and establishes its relations with the world. The loss of sensory acuity that occurs with aging affects all individuals at different levels, causing disorders that compromise independence, autonomy, interpersonal relationships and the sense of identity. The Snoezelen approach, reason for the present reflections, has been used both as a concept and as a therapeutic intervention, aiming at adapting and improving the quality of life of the elderly.

La pérdida de agudeza sensorial que ocurre con el envejecimiento afecta a todos los individuos en diferentes niveles, causando trastornos que comprometen la independencia, la autonomía, las relaciones interpersonales y el sentido de identidad. El enfoque de Snoezelen, razón de las reflexiones actuales, se ha utilizado como un concepto y una intervención terapéutica, con el objetivo de adaptar y mejorar la calidad de vida de los ancianos.Através dos sentidos do corpo, o ser humano se constitui e estabelece as suas relações com o mundo. A perda da acuidade sensorial que ocorre com o envelhecimento afeta todos os indivíduos em diferentes níveis, causando transtornos que comprometem a independência, a autonomia, as relações interpessoais e o sentido de identidade.
