Sociocultural aspects of the construction of appearance in the female aging: a narrative review

Resumo: This study comes from the fields of Gerontology, Fashion, and Anthropology. It presents and discusses some socio-cultural aspects of the construction of appearance in the context of the female aging. In this scenario, it was found that women have been pressured by the notion of eternal youth, especially through the media. These are their main educational agents, which have spread myths on aging aiming consumption. Finally, it is considered that appearance is a relevant variable to promote the heterogeneity.

Son presentados y discutidos aspectos socioculturales de la construcción de la apariencia en el contexto del envejecimiento femenino. En ese escenario, se detectó que las mujeres han sido presionadas por la noción de juventud eterna, especialmente a través de los medios de comunicación. Esos constituyen sus principales agentes educativos, los cuales han propagado mitos acerca del envejecimiento sobre todo para la promoción del consumo. Finalmente, se considera que la apariencia es variable relevante para la promoción de la heterogeneidad.O presente estudo provém dos campos da Gerontologia, Moda e Antropologia. Apresenta e discute aspectos socioculturais da construção da aparência no contexto do envelhecimento feminino. Nesse cenário, obteve-se que as mulheres têm sido pressionadas pela noção de juventude eterna, especialmente através das mídias. Estas constituem seus principais agentes educativos e têm divulgado mitos do envelhecimento com vistas ao consumo.
