Resumo: This study aims to know and understand the working meaning in the life of six retirees from the AAPS, São Paulo (SP); three stopped and returned and three remained professionally active. The methodology used was based on qualitative research design of collective case study. Results showed that the main reason for the continuation of the work or the resumption of this was not financial, nor has the bonus of the work itself, but the difficulty in staying with their families.

Results showed that the main reason for the continuation of the work or the resumption of this was not financial, nor has the bonus of the work itself, but the difficulty in staying with their families.Este artigo teve como objetivo conhecer e compreender o significado do trabalho na vida de seis aposentados da AAPS-Associação dos Aposentados e Pensionistas da Sabesp, São Paulo (SP); sendo que três deles, de início, pararam de trabalhar, voltando, porém, logo depois a trabalhar; três outros continuaram profissionalmente ativos mesmo após a aposentadoria. A metodologia baseou-se em pesquisa qualitativa com delineamento de estudo de caso coletivo.
