Resumo: This study, descriptive-exploratory and cross-sectional, aimed to analyze data from medical records of users of a Day Center for the elderly; such as the sociodemographic profile of the elderly and their family caregivers, the degree of dependence of the elderly on the Katz Index, and the level of burden on caregivers in the Zarit Burden Interview. The survey showed that the majority of caregivers are women, daughters and spouses. The elderly, in 73%, are between 70 and 89 years old; and the prevalent diseases are hypertension, diabetes, cerebrovascular, neuropsychiatric and neurocognitive disorders. The Katz Index shows that 27% of the elderly are dependent and 73% semi-dependent; and the Zarit Burden Interview shows that 90% of caregivers have moderate to severe overload. Thus, psychoeducative intervention is urgent in this relationship between the caregiver and the elderly person permeated by tension and overload.

La encuesta mostró que la mayoría de los cuidadores son mujeres, hijas y cónyuges. Los ancianos, en el 73%, tienen entre 70 y 89 años; y las enfermedades prevalentes son hipertensión, diabetes, trastornos cerebrovasculares, neuropsiquiátricos y neurocognitivos. El índice de Katz muestra que el 27% de los ancianos son dependientes y el 73% semi-dependientes; y la entrevista de Zarit Burden muestra que el 90% de los cuidadores tienen una sobrecarga de moderada a grave. Así, la intervención psicoeducativa es urgente en esta relación entre el cuidador y el anciano impregnado de tensión y sobrecarga.Este estudo, descritivo-exploratório e de corte transversal, objetivou analisar dados de prontuários dos usuários de um Centro-dia para idosos, tais como: o perfil sociodemográfico das pessoas idosas e de seus cuidadores familiares, o grau de dependência dos idosos no Katz Índex, e o nível de sobrecarga dos cuidadores na Zarit Burden Interview. O levantamento mostrou que os cuidadores em sua maioria são mulheres, filhas e cônjuges. Os idosos, em 73%, têm entre 70 e 89 anos; e as doenças prevalentes são hipertensão, diabetes, cerebrovasculares, neuropsiquiátricas e neurocognitivas. O Katz Índex mostra que 27% dos idosos são dependentes e 73%, semidependentes; e a Zarit Burden Interview evidencia que 90% dos cuidadores têm sobrecarga entre moderada e severa.
