Resumo: The objective was to identify the population niches of elderly people who were interviewed with the Barthel Index in the national scientific scenario. It is a review of scientific literature of the narrative type, with articles selected from 2008 to 2018 in the following databases: LILACS, BVS, and the CAPES Journal Portal. 57 articles were found, but only five were part of this research. The instrument in question was validated for a sample of elderly outpatients, but it was used for the elderly in different social niches.

Es una revisión de la literatura científica del tipo narrativo, con artículos seleccionados de 2008 a 2018 en las siguientes bases de datos: LILACS, BVS y el Portal de la revista CAPES. Se encontraron 57 artículos, pero solo cinco fueron parte de esta investigación. El instrumento en cuestión fue validado para una muestra de pacientes ambulatorios de edad avanzada, pero se utilizó para personas de edad avanzada en diferentes nichos sociales. Objetivou-se identificar os nichos populacionais de idosos que foram entrevistados com o Índice de Barthel no cenário científico nacional. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura científica do tipo narrativa, com artigos selecionados de 2008 a 2018 nas seguintes bases de dados: LILACS, BVS, e o Portal de Periódicos CAPES. Foram encontrados 57 artigos, mas apenas cinco fizeram parte desta pesquisa.
