Resumo: The purpose of this article is to make a contribution to the establishment of a Latin American perspective on the "right to the city ". The dominant thought, held in the northern epistemologies, has blocked, during a certain time, the search for a southern critical perspective that can help to sharpen an alternative view. Therefore, two tensions are investigated. On the one hand, the tension that exists between the model of society proposed and implemented by neoliberalism, in opposition to the model stimulated in certain countries of the region, with different shades, by post-neoliberalism. And, on the other hand, the dispute with regard to the meaning attributed to the right to the city.
