Resumo: We will try to identify in this article how the poetry of José Tolentino Mendonça reconciles the theological assumptions of his Catholic Christian religious experience with literary art as an expression of his mystical experience. In an age that is experiencing the challenge of overcoming the antagonisms between science and religion, reason and faith, theology and spirituality, we can find in this author's theopoetics the manifestation of an aesthetic experience that translates the acceptance of the mystery of divine life in the paradoxical condition of the finite world. . God's desire is not satisfied by the shrill voice of an overwhelming intervention, but by the silence stripped of an ineffable and recreating presence. From this new perspective, he introduces his work into a fruitful dialogue with contemporary culture thirsty for benevolent serenity and peace. Tolentino's God manifests himself in light and darkness as a giver of meaning and love and not as a judge or tax collector.
