Do “mito” ao “simulacro”: a crítica da mídia, de Barthes a Baudrillard

Este artigo analisa a noção de “mídia” na tradição do marxismo francês, que é composta por Roland Barthes, Henri Lefèbvre, Guy Debord e Jean Baudrillard, este último apenas até a sua guinada pós-moderna. As obras destes autores, muitas sob o crivo do “espetáculo”, são reveladoras não só do estatuto da mídia nas teorias sociais, mas do próprio movimento que desemboca na revisão ou abandono do marxismo ocidental a partir dos anos 70. A noção de “espetáculo” é central para a análise da relação entre mídia e sociedade nesta tradição, e está na gênese da noção de “simulação”, uma das linhas de força do pensamento pós-moderno. A partir desta investigação, é possível mostrar a centralidade da “mídia” nas interpretações dos autores acerca das dinâmicas sociais no segundo pós-guerra, centralidade esta implícita nas noções de “mito”, “planificação”, “espetáculo” e “simulação”. Neste percurso, transparecem também algumas diferenças cruciais entre as abordagens destes autores. Palavras-chave: Mídia; espetáculo; marxismo francês Abstract From “myth” to “simulacrum”: the media´s critique, from Barthes to Baudrillard – This article analyzes the idea of “media” in the tradition of French Marxism, which is based on Guy Debord’s notion of the “spectacle” and includes the contributions of Henri Lefèbvre, Roland Barthes and Jean Baudrillard, the latter only until his post-modern reversal. These authors’ works are revealing not only of the status of the media in contemporary social theory but also of the movement that ends in the review or renunciation of western Marxism after the 1970s. The notion of “spectacle” is crucial in the analysis of the relation between media and society in this tradition, and embodies the source of the idea of “simulacrum”, which is central to postmodern theory. This investigation reveals the centrality of the media in these authors’ interpretations of social dynamics after World War II, a centrality that is implicit in the notions of “myth”, “planification”, “spectacle” and “simulacrum”. Various crucial differences between the approaches of these authors are also uncovered along the way. Key words: Media; spectacle; French marxism
