Homossexualidade, construção de carreiras e apoio familiar : perspectivas de homens gays que trabalham em empresas privadas com políticas de antidiscriminação

The present research is composed of two studies. The first study objective was intended to analyze the careers construction of gay men who are working in Information Technology (IT) companies with antidiscrimination policies, considering their life trajectories. The second was intended to investigate family support in the career of gay men, considering homosexuality as public-private. For data collection, six gay men working in IT companies with antidiscrimination policies were interviewed by narrative interviews. In addition, a field diary was conducted. For data analysis, in both studies were used the Critical Discourse Studies. As the main results of Study 1, it appears that antidiscrimination policies do not contribute only to the confrontation of discrimination and the promotion of sexual diversity, but also to their life projects in a neoliberal context raised by market interests. In relation to human rights, it seems that their guarantee runs through private interests. This phenomenon may be in accordance with the so-called homonationalism. However, even in a neoliberal context, antidiscrimination policies seem to play an important role in the lives of the participants, serving as a device of resistance and protection against the discrimination suffered and the very construction of their homosexuality. As the main results of Study 2, it was observed that the public-private homosexuality sphere in the family relations of the participants seems to be the basis of their dynamics and strategies in the face of discriminatory situations experienced in the history of their careers. It should also be noted that this impact seems to be related to the heterornormativity discourse, which was significantly related to the values and beliefs of the participants. Investigating the process and encompassing implications of antidiscrimination policies and making family support in the career of gay men enables new forms of action that produce different senses and meanings in relation to hegemonic discourses as well as resistance movements. In this sense, the narratives as a strategy could aid to co-construction a critical sense about experiences already lived, such as the participants did during the interviews.
