Internacionalização e organização em rede : uma proposta para a Rede Internacional Marista de Educação Superior

The aim of this dissertation is to discuss the Internationalization of Higher Education and the perspective of the network organization. The findings of this investigation culminated in the design of a proposal for the Marist International Network of Higher Education (RIMES). Higher Education, in contemporary times, in the face of rapid changes and technological advances, has experienced a number of transformations that have a direct impact on its actions and its relationship with society. Thus, universities are required to play a leading role in the generation, storage, availability and transfer of knowledge, in an effort to make a contribution to innovation and development of societies. Therefore, this study aims to investigate internationalization and networked actions at RIMES, whose Higher Education Institutions are supported by different administrative units of the Marist Brothers Institute, founded in 1817, in France. In view of the guidelines of the Marist General Government, RIMES has assumed to design a proposal for networked organization, in face of the fact that its member institutions are not yet fully connected. As a consequence, the existing network is merely metaphorical and ineffective. The study sought answers for the following problem: considering that internationalization and the perspective of network organization is a possibility of articulation and collaboration between institutions, what kind of structure can be in place for RIMES? Its goals include: the analysis of the scenario and the context of Higher Education; an exploration of the concepts of the Internationalization of Higher Education and the Network theory; presentation of the history and composition of RIMES; proposal for a network organization. The action research methodology was employed. This method fosters the engagement of participants and researchers and allows researchers to make changes in specific contexts for a transformative action. Participants in this study included the expanded Executive Committee and the group of leaders of the 27 Marist Institutions of Higher Education, from 12 different countries. As a result, the dissertation presents a proposal for networked organization, which consists of the composition of the strategy, structure and process. The idea is to connect people, knowledge and projects to promote innovation and development in the institutions. An Administrative Networked Organization, based in Brazil, has been created to run the strategy and the strategic plan, in the form of associativism. The processes include the operation of the network per se, with a focus on the management of the six processes chosen to facilitate the strategy. Networked organization, in view of the possibilities for internationalization and cooperative and articulated actions involving the Institutions, can maximize the university mission, promote its perpetuity, and help it achieve its goals and institutional results. Therefore, it is hoped that the proposal for networked organization, resulted from this dissertation, with the validation and engagement of the leaders of the institutions can have relevance and significant impact on Marist higher education.
