The present master’s dissertation aims to discuss and reflect on the theme of travel based on two main concepts: displacement and “dépaysement” (disorientation). A trip is seen as an action, a process, a journey that takes two paths, the physical and the metaphorical. This is about understanding concepts based on the ideas of theorists Michael Onfray, Renato Modernell and Alain de Botton, mainly. We start from terms such as space and time, dimension and interval. A third understanding is that of the individuation process. This includes the affective and effective forces - emotional and moral - of the experiences lived by the individual in the journey of life, in the construct of his subjectivation. Thus, taken as an action that requires locomotion - moving from one place to another - and a translocation - a change of context - the trip is approached as the living of an experience that not only displaces us but also permeates us on the journey of life and transforms us. Our experiences and feelings, our choices and ethical and moral attitudes, transform us at every step, as historical, social and cultural beings that we are, in constant experimentation and resignification of our eyes and perspectives. The concepts are used for the analysis of two novels by Carola Saavedra – Flores azuis [Blue Flowers], (2008) and Paisagem com dromedário [Dromedary Landscape], (2010). Aleida Assmann's studies on memory and recollection are also mentioned. Travel is analyzed, identified and explored as a physical and metaphorical process.
