This study aimed to investigate whether health conditions are a limiting labor supply in the labor market for the elderly. For this, the database used was the National Household Sample for the years 1998 and 2008 with a health supplement. The empirical strategy used was the hurdle model. This empirical strategy will be evaluated by means of a logit model, the determinants of the probability of the elderly to participate or not in the labor market . In the second stage, will be used only seniors who participate in the labor market and the time that they proffer the labor market will be investigated. Two models that differ in the variable used to capture health conditions were estimated. In the first model estimated is modeled health conditions of the elderly through self rated health. The estimated results indicated that poorer health status (assessed by health status) were negatively associated with the number of hours offered in 1998 and so had no correlation to the year 2008. In the second model is modeled health conditions through a set of chronic diseases. The evidence indicated that the incidence of tuberculosis, cirrhosis and heart problems are associated negatively to participation and the time spent by the elderly in the labor market form. Have the people who have diabetes or tendonitis participates, on average, more labor market than that reported having hypertension. These last two conditions of health when controlled by a set of covariates does not restrict the disposal work in older people.
