Apoio à construção de visualizações narrativas de dados com ênfase em gêneros narrativos

There is a growing interest in presenting data more clearly to users. One of the ways to increase engagement and understanding of this data is through narrative visualizations, as they use elements that, in different ways, can improve understanding of the data presented. In this context, we performed a literature review to identify narrative data visualization’s fundamental elements and characteristics, such as narrative genres, techniques, tools used, application domains, and challenges related to the topic. Then, we identified an opportunity for research on the relationship between these elements and the narrative genres. To investigate this topic, we held a focus group with data visualization professionals to discuss it. From this study, we identified a lack of works that address narrative genres in detail. Therefore, new studies were realized to characterize narrative genres in-depth, seeking to achieve the objective of this research: to support professionals in the construction of narrative visualizations. As the main result, we present a guide to support the design of narrative visualizations, created from components structures of the identified narrative genres. Subsequently, we ran a workshop with professionals to analyze the guide. Despite some suggested and necessary adjustments, it was considered clear and valuable, especially for professionals who do not have previous knowledge about narrative elements, showing that it answered many questions and guided them in building the visualization.
