Our hypothesis seeks to respond to the thesis of an algorithmic governmentality, as developed by the philosophers Antoinette Rouvroy and Thomas Berns, in their critical questioning of algorithmic devices according to the Foucauldian theoretical framework. Our bet is to take, as an object of study, a determined cultural nucleus: in general, the technomediation of life by algorithmic devices, such as social networks – which will acquire its volume in the intersection, in the articulation, between the dimensions of forms of governmentality and subjectivation techniques, through the new modalities of virtual veridiction, which we try to designate here through the notion of “virtualization of the experience of the self”. The virtualization of the experience of the self corresponds, according to our hypothesis, to the set of practices of the self, or engagement practices, which articulate the dialectic between the virtual and the actual (analog), thus producing subjectivity effects. As hyperconnectivity profoundly altered the experience of space and time, new subjective dispositions were also imposed: a new disposition of ways of thinking, feeling, desiring, perceiving the world and relationships, as well as, enabling new possibilities of imagining, presenting and performing the self. In this way, our hypothesis seeks to support that the process of subjectivity control through practices, or of virtualization of the experience of oneself, in the scope of algorithmic technologies, is continuous, transparent, reciprocal, fragmentary and fluid, in a way that it is not a matter of we call into question an immanent, previously existing self, explained by metanarrative approaches or by a technological determinism, but which is placed in an active relationship with these technical devices.
