Feminicídio seguido de suicídio : o papel da mídia em orientar para prevenção de casos relacionados

This master's thesis aims to discuss the relationship between femicide and suicide and understand the role of the media in guiding and providing services for the prevention of related cases. To support the analysis, the author searches for reports from two different times, 2015 and 2022, from the three main broadcasters of open television in Brazil, Globo, Record and SBT, and uses Content Analysis to study them. The first period, 2015, was chosen because it dates from the enactment of the Femicide Law (LAW No. 13,104). The second, 2022, as the maximum possible period for the analysis. The research is mainly based on the following authors: Bardin (2011), Minois (2018), Durkheim (2014), Solnit (2017), Blázquez (1999) and Christofoletti (2016). The research is also based on two manuals for journalists, from the World Health Organization, on how to talk about suicide; and Universa UOL, on how to approach feminicide. Throughout the work, it is perceived that press coverage remains fragile and that professional journalists need to reflect on how they can help women who are in situations of violence, being able to avoid tragic losses – which go beyond the victim of femicide.
