Resumo: FRAGA, Diogo. ASSOCIATION STUDY OF BIOCHEMICAL AND SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC MARKERS IN THE ELDERLY WITH AND WITHOUT DEMENTIA. School of Medicine of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, 2020. Introduction: Cognitive decline is considered a factor and risk for the onset of dementia, the most frequent being Alzheimer's disease, a pathology that in turn is characterized by alterations that result in anterograde memory loss, such as in the activity of learning and rescue of information previously stored by the individual. There are several risk factors for the development of dementias, which can be highlighted: age, schooling, poor cognitive reserve, family history of the disease, cardiovascular risk factors, genetic composition, chronic diseases (diabetes, depression, Parkinson's) and lifestyle (smoking, alcohol, diet and sedentary lifestyle). However, literature data are controversial or inconsistent in relation to the association of biochemical biomarkers, elderly anthropometric variables. Objectives: to verify whether there is an association of sociodemographic, anthropomeric and biomarkers of the lipid and inflammatory profile among elderly with or without dementia. Method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, and is part of a larger project called "Epidemiological and Clinical Study of the Elderly Assisted by the Family Health Strategy (ESF) of the Municipality of Porto Alegre (EMI-SUS)". Data were collected from March 2011 to December 2012. Elderly participants in the EMI-SUS study were included. Results: The sample of this study was composed of 311 elderly, with a mean age of 68.6 ± 6.9 years, most of them women (64.95%), of whom 74 (23.8%) were diagnosed with dementia. Individuals with dementia were older than those without dementia, with a lower amount of triglycerides, and the factors showed a statistically significant difference. Other findings such as age, marital status, schooling were evidenced among the groups. While the other biomarkers and sociodemographic factors did not present differences, or presented minimal differences, but not statistically significant. Conclusion: Elderly with dementia are older and have lower average triglycerides compared to the elderly without dementia. Data such as schooling and marital status were also statistically relevant. While the other biomarkers analyzed, such as interleukin and lipid profile, they did not show statistically positive for the development of dementia. Although, some evidence verified and discussed in this study confirms in parts and others do not prove a positive effect on the development of dementia in the elderly population. It is recommended that future studies use other evaluation techniques, capable of resemisures about these markers. Thus, it will be possible to confirm more acuity the existence or not of markers for the development of dementias.

Submitted by PPG Gerontologia Biomédica (geronbio@pucrs.br) on 2021-01-26T12:09:16Z No. of bitstreams: 1 ROSA_DIOGO_DE_FRAGA_DIS.pdf: 3766741 bytes, checksum: 9df874a4315956a9b9ad206a78823f2f (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Anamaria Ferreira (anamaria@pucrs.br) on 2021-03-10T16:55:21Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 ROSA_DIOGO_DE_FRAGA_DIS.pdf: 3766741 bytes, checksum: 9df874a4315956a9b9ad206a78823f2f (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-03-10T17:27:02Z (GMT).
