Based on Otto Kernberg's concept of personality organization, the Structure Interview of Personality Organization-Revised is a structured interview developed to diagnose personality functioning in a dimensional and systematized way. With the evolution towards a dimensional model in the way of understanding and diagnosing personality disorders, instruments with this characteristic have gained importance. The goal of this thesis was to develop and obtain validity evidence for the Brazilian version of the STIPO-R. A review of the development of the object relations theory that underlies Otto Kernberg's concept of personality organization was the first step in this process. After a non-systematic exploratory review of publications of the STIPO and STIPO-R compiled their psychometric characteristics, their research use, and their clinical utility. Study 1 translated and adapted the STIPO-R to the Brazilian culture following the methodological rigor to preserve its characteristics in the STIPO-R Brazil. Study 2 tested internal consistency, reliability and sought for validity evidence in a sample of 66 patients. The results showed good internal consistency, good temporal stability, good inter-rater reliability and good evidence of validity with external measures. The Brazil STIPO-R showed sufficient validity evidence for its use for clinical, teaching, or research purposes.
