Resumo: | Great floods occurred frequently during the 20th century, some of which have become a reference in the memory of the city of Rio de Janeiro. This article emphasizes the role of the “summer rains” as a high-impact environmental agent in the city, analyzing in particular the rains of 1966/67, 1988 and 2010. The central hypothesis is the idea that the rains, in different occasions, have prompted strong public debate, especially in relation to slums, mobilizing resources and discourses, which resulted in changes in the interventions of the public authorities in these spaces, both in terms of public policy formulation and of new intervention techniques in these areas. |

Este artículo pone de relieve el papel de las “lluvias de verano” como agente ambiental de impacto en la ciudad, analizando particularmente las lluvias de 1966,1967, 1988 y 2010. La hipótesis central se basa en la idea de que las lluvias, en diferentes ocasiones, levantaron un fuerte debate público, sobre todo en relación a los barrios marginales, movilizando recursos y discursos, imponiendo cambios en el modo de acción de las autoridades en estas áreas, en términos de formulación de políticas públicas y de nuevas técnicas de intervención en estas áreas.Se grandes enchentes aconteceram com frequência no decorrer do século XX, algumas tornaram-se uma referência na memória carioca. O presente artigo sublinha o papel das “chuvas de verão”, enquanto agente ambiental de impacto na cidade, analisando as chuvas de 1966/67, 1988 e 2010.
