Resumo: This work focuses on the process of occupation of areas to the north of Porto Alegre from the 1930s onwards in what we call the second industrial and working-class housing nucleus, wich followed the first of Navegantes. This process, which involved public and private initiatives, resulted in the unique character of this occupation and the link established with the metropolitan region. Este proceso, que involucró iniciativas públicas y privadas, dio como resultado el carácter único de esta ocupación y el vínculo establecido con la región metropolitana. Palabras clave: expansión; parcelaciones; industria; vivienda.Este trabalho enfoca o processo de ocupação de áreas ao norte de Porto Alegre a partir da década de 1930 no que chamamos o segundo núcleo industrial e de habitação operária, que se seguiu ao primeiro, do Navegantes. Desse processo, que envolveu iniciativas públicas e privadas, resultaram a singularidade do caráter dessa ocupação e o vínculo que se estabeleceu com a região metropolitana.
