Resumo: The article analyses the visual narrative of the mosaic Apotheosis of Our Lady, placed in the pediment’s tympanum of the church of Nazareth, in Belém do Pará. Historical sources indicate that, contrarywise to what the mosaic suggests, the indigenous people participated actively in the constitution of the Amazonian religiosity, imprinting their marks on the devotion.
