Resumo: The paper analyzes the role of the Andrada family in the mercantile networks of South-Central Brazil on the eve of Independence. Through the examination of two episodes rarely explored by historiography, it is possible to verify that the commercial disputes between the family and the competing groups had repercussions on the practice and political discourse of José Bonifácio and his brothers, Antônio Carlos and Martim Francisco. Keywords: Independence; José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva; commercial relations; São Paulo.
