Resumo: This article presents some aspects of the trajectory of the Sociedade Carnavalesca Os Congos, an association made up of members of the black population, which stood out in the late 19th century in Porto Alegre. Our exhibition will start from its comparison with pioneer groups in the city, seeking approximations as well as the singularities of the carnival of the Congos. Keywords: carnival; carnival societies; black resistances; diasporic cultures.

Nuestra exposición comenzará con su comparación con los grupos pioneros en la ciudad, buscando aproximaciones así como las singularidades del carnaval de los Congos. Palabras clave: carnaval; sociedades de carnaval; resistencias negras; culturas diaspóricas.Este artigo busca apresentar alguns aspectos da trajetória da Sociedade Carnavalesca Os Congos, uma agremiação composta por membros da população negra, que se destacou em fins do século XIX, em Porto Alegre. Nossa exposição partirá de sua comparação com agremiações pioneiras na cidade, buscando aproximações com o festejo por elas apresentado, bem como as singularidades do carnaval dos Congos.
