Jurema’s country: reviewing the historical sources starting from the atikum ritual

Resumo: Based on the contemporary ethnographic account of the rituals of the Atikum people, we propose a rereading of the available historical sources about the cults with the jurema in the 18th and 19th centuries. We deliberately intend to be more evocative and allegorical than interpretative, in order to preserve in the academic text the sensitive and poetic dimensions concerning the ritual as a specific modality of knowledge in action.
