The adventures of affection: changes and continuities in models of relationship between teachers and students in Chilean high schools (c.1910-c.1950)

Resumo: After a brief analysis of nineteenth-century century antecedents, this text focuses on revealing certain aspects of the changes promoted by educational reforms implemented in Chile during the twentieth century regarding the knowledge and management of affective emotional environment of young people in high schools. From a theoretical point of view, the conceptual contributions of Peter Stearns (1985), with his notion of ‘emotionology’, and William Reddy (2001) and his idea of ‘emotional’ regimes are references for this article. The research is based on written sources from official authorities and the high schools themselves, as well as books and articles written by experts and educational essayists of the time.

Para ello, desde el punto de vista teórico, se recurre a los aportes conceptuales de Peter Stearns (1985) con su noción de ‘emocionología’ y a William Reddy (2001) y su idea de ‘regímenes emocionales’. La investigación se basa en fuentes escritas provenientes tanto de autoridades ministeriales como de los propios liceos, así como también libros y artículos de expertos y ensayistas educacionales de la época.Incorporando alguns antecedentes do século XIX, este texto se concentra em desvendar aspectos específicos das mudanças promovidas por reformas educacionais implementadas no Chile durante o século XX no que se refere ao conhecimento e gerenciamento do entorno emocional-afetivo dos jovens nos liceos (Centros ou Institutos Estaduais de Ensino Médio). Para isso, desde o ponto de vista teórico, são utilizadas as contribuições conceituais de Peter Stearns (1985), com sua noção de emocionologia e William Reddy (2001) e a sua ideia de ‘regimes emocionais’.
