A bachelor in the Ministry of Interior and Justice: Delfim Moreira and the education reformation in Minas Gerais

Resumo: I suggest problematizing Delfi m Moreira’s performance in the tramitation process of Primary Education Reformation from 1902 to 1906. This study links Delfi m Moreira’s thoughts, the State and education. I would like to highlight not only who this intellectual was and what he thought and proposed for the education in Minas Gerais, but, also, what infl uenced this intellectual and how he managed to insert himself in the educational and political fi elds.Highlighting this man is enabling to understand the movement in support of modernizing the State, as in this movement, Brazilian intellectuals supported the State intervention to articulate social forces. Physicians, architects and lawyers took part in the governments, with the purpose of achieving the modernization recommended by the Republic.

Esse estudo tem a ver com um esforço de pensar o intelectual, o Estado e a educação. Destaco não só quem foi esse intelectual e o que ele pensava e propunha para a educação em Minas Gerais, mas, também, como se constituía o intelectual da educação e o que permitia a esse ator uma inserção no campo educacional e político. Ressaltar esse intelectual é possibilitar uma compreensão do movimento em prol da modernização do Estado, pois nesse movimento os intelectuais brasileiros apostaram na intervenção do Estado na articulação de forças sociais.
