Nanette and Boné Preto go to school: personal behavior and schooling in the 1930s

Resumo: In this study, we analyze the presence of Nanette and Boné Preto in school using as main source the forms of the Ortofrenia and Mental Hygiene Section published by Arthur Ramos in the book A criança problema. Based on the ideas of Roberto da Matta, we investigated the ways school perceives children and some attitudes of Nanette and Boné Preto in school. In this article, we intend to apprehend some of the dimensions of the children and juvenile culture in the school environment. The concern with the issue of children’s school culture has arisen in the context of a confluence between history and anthropology studies. The discussion includes a concern with the history of social types and patterns of school behavior. Finally, the study draws attention to some of the dimensions of the Brazilian public education in the 1930s.

A partir de las ideas de Roberto Da Matta, han sido investigadas las formas en que la escuela percibe al niño y las peculiares actitudes asumidas por Nanette y Boné Preto en la escuela. El artículo intenta aprehender algunas de las dimensiones de la cultura infanto-juvenil allí existente. La preocupación con la cultura escolar del niño despuntó en el ámbito de una aproximación entre los estudios de Historia y Antropología. La discusión incluye una preocupación con la historia de los tipos sociales y la de los patrones de comportamiento escolares. Por último, destaca algunas de las dimensiones de la educación pública brasileña en los años de 1930.Este artigo analisa a presença de Nanette e Boné Preto na escola, tomando como fonte as fichas da Seção de Ortofrenia e Higiene Mental, publicadas por Arthur Ramos no livro A creança problema. A partir das ideias de Roberto Da Matta, foram investigadas as maneiras de a escola perceber a criança e determinadas atitudes de Nanette e Boné Preto na escola. O artigo intenta apreender algumas das dimensões da cultura infantojuvenil ali existente. A preocupação com a cultura escolar da criança despontou no âmbito de uma aproximação entre os estudos de História e Antropologia. A discussão inclui uma preocupação com a história dos tipos sociais e dos padrões de comportamento escolares.
