Resumo: This article is centered on guidelines and actions of the Indústria e Comércio de Minérios SA (Icomi) in the educational field. Icomiis a mining company that for more than four decades extracted and sold manganese from Serra do Navio, in the center of the current State of Amapá, located in the extreme North of Brazil. The main source of the research was the company's monthly magazine called Icomi-Notícias, from 1964 to 1967. When we related the texts (articles) and the context (opening of new fronts for the exploration of Amazonian natural resources), it was possible to understand that the education was thought and conducted in the company towns of Icomi as a strategy of formation of a new type of man and local society. The centrality of work and professional specialization were perceived as pillars of a new way of life to be forged. In order to reach this goal, Icomi has built two schools and two training centers. It also promoted professional courses, granted scholarships, among other actions. In addition, the company used to encourage, through the published texts in the magazine, the engagement of the workers in this démarche.

A. (Icomi), la empresa minera que por más de cuatro décadas extrajo y vendió el manganeso de Serra do Navio, en el centro del actual Estado de Amapá, en el extremo-norte de Brasil. La principal fuente de investigación fue la revista mensual de la empresa denominada Icomi-Notícias, que duró de 1964 a 1967. Al relacionar los textos (artículos) y el contexto (apertura de nuevos frentes de explotación de los recursos naturales amazónicos), fue posible comprender que la educación era pensada y realizada en las company towns de la Icomi como una estrategia de formación de un nuevo tipo de hombre y de sociedad local. La centralidad del trabajo y la especialización profesional eran percibidas como pilares de un nuevo modo de vida a ser construido. Para alcanzar ese objetivo, la Icomi construyó dos escuelas, dos centros de entrenamiento, promovió cursos profesionalizantes, concedió becas de estudio, entre otras acciones. También estimulaba, por medio de textos publicados en su revista, el compromiso de los trabajadores en esa démarche.Neste artigo enfocamos as diretrizes e ações educativas da Indústria e Comércio de Minérios S. A. (Icomi), a empresa mineradora que por mais de quatro décadas extraiu e vendeu o manganês de Serra do Navio, no centro do atual Estado do Amapá, no extremo-norte do Brasil. A principal fonte de pesquisa foi a revista mensal da empresa denominada Icomi-Notícias, que durou de 1964 a 1967. Ao relacionar os textos (artigos) e o contexto (abertura de novas frentes de exploração dos recursos naturais amazônicos), foi possível compreender que a educação era pensada e realizada nas company towns da Icomi como uma estratégia de formação de um novo tipo de homem e de sociedade local. A centralidade do trabalho e a especialização profissional eram percebidas como pilares de um novo modo de vida a ser forjado. Para atingir esse objetivo a Icomi construiu duas escolas, dois centros de treinamento, promoveu cursos profissionalizantes, concedeu bolsas de estudos, entre outras ações.
