Resumo: This paper aims to give a summary of the results of a study about the urban morphology of Braga, from its Roman foundation to the Modern ages. In addition to a synchronic topographic analysis of the city in Roman, medieval and modern times, we also use the historical mechanisms responsible, either by conservation or by changing the elements that characterize urban plans in orderto understand the diachronic evolution of physical built spaces. This work was possible thanks to the use of a multidisciplinary approach, which sought to highlight the different components of urban space, such as the plan, the road system, parcels, street blocks and buildings. The study of the historical topography of Braga focused on the intersection of different information sources, namely, archaeological, iconographic, cartographic and historical documentary, using also the fossilized markers present in the urban landscape and existing buildings, which were the subject of a field paricular study, using a methodological approach based on the Archaeology of Architecture.

Para além da análise sincrónica da topografia da cidade nas épocas romana, medieval e moderna, procurámos, ainda, valorizar os mecanismos históricos responsáveis, quer pela preservação, quer pela mudança dos elementos que caracterizam os planos urbanos, tendo em vista perceber a evolução diacrónica dos espaços físicos construídos. A concretização deste trabalho foi possível graças à utilização de uma metodologia multidisciplinar, que procurou valorizar os diferentes componentes do espaço urbano, como sejam, o plano, o sistema viário, as parcelas, os quarteirões e o edificado.
