Resumo: The legend of the Malta’s knight who converts himself into friar, because of a marriage which became ilegal to the eyes of the Church and to a very prejudiced society, awakened interest in Almeida Garrett, in order to approach questions of his century and, possibly, his questions, while being a father of an illegitimate daughter. Transformed into a classic of the Portuguese Literature, Frei Luís de Sousa includes two film adaptations in the Portuguese context. The present article pretends to be about them.
