O ambiente museológico em Tavira no Estado Novo: memória, propaganda e turismo

A museologia está intimamente ligada à cultura e ao património histórico, uma relação que a transforma naturalmente num importante agente de promoção e interpretação do passado, das memórias e das tradições. Aproveitar-se-á disso mesmo o Estado Novo que começa a olhar os museus e as exposições como significativos aliados na propaganda dos seus ideais culturais. Esse fim propagandístico que as instâncias govemamentais determinam às colecções artísticas observa-se no percurso museológico em Tavira nos anos em que o regime do Estado Novo vigora e que neste trabalho damos conta: na valorização das raízes e dos costumes regionais e locais, na propagação à escala local do discurso político e cultural do poder central, e na programação da oferta turística que a cidade disponibiliza. ***/ Abstract - Museology is intimately connected to culture and historical heritage, a relationship that, naturally, transforms it into an important agent for the promotion and interpretation of the past’s memories and traditions. The Estado Novo took this into consideration and utilized this systematic accessioning and began to consider how museums and their expositions could be significant allies in the propaganda of cultural ideals. This propagandistic intent that the government institutions dictated over the collections is observed in the museum policies and practices that were implemented and invigorated during the regime of the Estado Novo in Tavira. lt is this phase in the national museum practices that will be dealt with in this Work: the valuation of the roots of regional and local customs, in the propagation of cultural and political speech and of the central power on a local scale as well as the tourism’s agenda for the city.
