A Educação Física: Brincar, Motivar ou Automatizar?

Resumo: This paper, entitled Physical Education: to Play, to Motivate or to Automatize, features a very personal touch and answers the question that raised more doubts during my academic career, more specifically during the preservice teaching at the Ermesinde Secondary School. The question to what should be the role of the discipline of Physical Education in the school community and in society in general. Hence, this document covers my entire personal journey as a child, a young person and, with the entry into higher education, as an adult. I also describe, in some detail, the experiences lived and acquired along this path, as well as the certainties and doubts about what I wanted for my future, until the final decision to enter the Master's in Teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Education. At the last stage of my preservice teaching, which was the beginning of my professional internship, I portray all the problems, obstacles and indecisions. Be it in the creation of documents, in the relationship with the class and in the application of certain teaching models. I also share the lessons I took from it, such as the ability to overcome, to organize, and the happiness allied to the responsibility that allowed me to be a fundamental part in the growth process of my students, both academically and personally. After the presentation of all relevant themes, this paper concludes with the study about the effects of sports practice outside of the school context in the final grade of Physical Education. Finally, the conclusion of the report, summarizing everything that was important in this journey for my own growth as a professional of Physical Education and, mainly, as a human being.
