This is an interdisciplinary museum, with collections from diverse areas, intent on understanding Fado. Given that Fado is expressed in both amateur and professional fashion at the typical Lisbon bairros, one is led to question if the institution should democratise its research sources and communicate with those keeping the intangible heritage in a more encompassing way. The goal being presenting the urban song in all its approaches and manifestations, thus providing a broader and more diversified view of it. In order to understand how the museum is regarded in this environment, what is expected of it and how it may be improved, I have interviewed a variety of persons involved in the Fado universe: amateurs, professionals, Fado House owners, performers, portuguese guitar players, guitar players and lyrics writers. The first part of the research will be centered on the general framing of museums and their relationship with the local community, according to New Museology. It will also deal with the definition of Intangible Cultural Heritage and with the practices supported by UNESCO. The second part will have a specific framing, contextualizing Fado's history and how it has evolved from its origins up to present times. In addition, a presentation of the museum currently in study will also be given. The conclusion of this research will focus on the analysis of the museum's programmatic content and of the interviews that were made.
