Lipoma Duodenal – Uma Causa Rara de Hemorragia Digestiva

The duodenal lipoma is a rare tumour, with a benign nature, which usually becomes symptomatic when its size surpasses 4 cm of diameter. Two hundred cases of duodenal lipomas have been described in literature, among which only 15 manifested through a high and severe digestive haemorrhage. Here we present the clinical case of a 73 year-old man, interned in the hospital with a clinical picture of sharp anaemia in which, after a high digestive endoscopy, complemented by an endoscopic ultrasonography, was identified, in the posterior face of the second duodenal portion, a submucosal formation with a large base and signs of recent bleeding. The patient was submitted to a laparotomy, during which the exeresis of that injury was undergone by an anterior duodenotomy. The histopathological study of the removed surgical piece evidenced the presence of a duodenal lipoma. To purpose of this clinical case the authors make a brief revision of the literature related to this issue.
