Resumo: Ceuta remained loyal to Philip IV after the facts happened in Portugal during the crisis of 1640. The reasons and motivations of this loyalty, as well as the efforts of Madrid to defend and to reward the city for his loyalty, are analyzed in this work. At the same time, we also compared this with what happened in Tangiers in 1643. In this work, we also analyze the arrival of the first Castilian garrison, and his evolution until 1665. A military presence that in this period did not influence so decisively to the progressive castellanización of the city, it has been thought traditionally. In fact it seems that in Ceuta it conformed a mixed Hispanic-Portuguese society, in theface the continuous naturalization of the Castilian soldiers who arrives to Ceuta.

Las causas y motivaciones de esa fidelidad, así como los esfuerzos de Madrid para defender y premiar a la ciudad por su lealtad, son analizadas en este trabajo, al mismo tiempo que se compara con lo ocurrido en Tánger, especialmente en 1643. También se analiza en este texto la llegada de la primera guarnición castellana, y la evolución de la misma hasta 1665. Presencia militar que en ese periodo no influyó tan decisivamente a la progresiva castellanización de la ciudad, como se ha pensado tradicionalmente, ya que más bien conformó una sociedad mixta hispano-portuguesa ante la continua naturalización de los soldados castellanos que llegaban a Ceuta.Ceuta permaneceu leal a Felipe IV depois do que aconteceu em Portugal durante a crise de 1640. As causas e motivações daquela lealdade, bem como os esforços de Madrid para defender e recompensar a cidade de Ceuta pela sua fidelidade, são analisados neste trabalho, ao mesmo tempo que se compara com o que sucedeu em Tânger, especialmente em 1643. Também é analisado neste texto a chegada da primeira guarnição castelhana e a sua evolução até 1665.
