Resumo: Since the end of the last century, especially since the second decade of the 21st century, Germany has demonstrated, through its government policies, a firm commitment to sustainable development. A clear example is the so-called energy transition: the abandonment of fossil fuels, the implementation of renewable energies and the increase of energy efficiency. Thanks to its geographic position, to its political and economic situation, and, consequently, to its central role in the most important international organizations, Germany has been able to develop a policy of intensive cooperation in the various areas of economy and society, particularly in the energy sector. The German effort to cooperate, at both governmental and non-state level, with countries on the various continents is notorious, not without a lucrative purpose, but also with the aim of contributing through financial, technological, and human resources to the sustainable development of emerging and developing countries. This article intends to provide a systematic, summary view, based on German bibliographical sources, of the strategic options that have marked the German policy of international cooperation within the framework of the socalled energy transition in the Federal Republic of Germany.
