The result of the continuous evolution in Telecommunications is the growing easiness to access information, and the emergence of the so called Information Society. The final consequence of such situation, is the development of nations and the well-being of their citizens. This paper focuses the ISDN, and the steps that have been taken in order to transform it in the basic and fundamental Telecommunications infrastructure that points the way to the Information Society. It is also identified applications and sectors in society that can benefit with the use of ISDN.
