A rotação manual do vitelo por via vaginal surge como o método de eleição dos Médicos Veterinários do sexo masculino, enquanto que a rotação da vaca é o método de excelência por parte dos Médicos veterinários do género feminino; Abstract: Study of the resolution of uterine torsions in cattle in Portugal Uterine torsion is an obstetric emergency that requires a quick and effective resolution since it puts the life of the mother and the calf at risk, as well as representing a determining factor in the reproductive and productive future of the cow. This study has as main objective to portray the class of Veterinary Doctors in Portugal in the resolution of uterine torsions in cattle, through the realization of an online survey from which 69 answers were obtained. It is concluded that only 18.7% of Veterinarians perform low epidural anesthesia before performing any obstetric maneuver. Antibiotics are used by 33.8% of respondents, and 28.4% report administering calcium to the animal after the torsion is resolved. The Azores appear as the region with the greatest number of cases of uterine torsion, and the Alentejo the area where the least occurs. Manual rotation of the calf vaginally emerges as the method of choice for male veterinarians, while rotation of the cow is the method of excellence for female veterinarians. |
