Giant gastric phytobezoar with gastric ulcer by eating persimmons – a case report

Resumo: Several types of bezoars are described in the digestive tract. The authors present the infrequent case of a giant gastric phytobezoar in a 66-year old healthy woman, admitted for severe abdominal pain in a dragged bezoar framework resulting from the abundant intake of persimmons. The chemical dissolution and endoscopic removal were not successful. Because of being a bezoar with big dimensions and the existence of a gastric ulcer, she underwent a gastrotomy and extraction of the bezoar.

Os autores apresentam o caso pouco frequente de um volumoso fitobezoar gástrico numa mulher de 66 anos sem antecedentes pessoais relevantes, admitida por dor abdominal intensa num quadro arrastado de bezoar, decorrente da ingestão abundante de diospiros. A dissolução química e a remoção endoscópica não tiveram sucesso.
