The third REDE, Design Schools Meeting, took place on the 3rd December 2021 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. The aim of this meeting was to give voice to teachers who have actively contributed to a reflection on design education in Portugal. We had the collaboration of six guest speakers, who make up a representative panel of several design schools from different geographical areas and education subsystems. For this participation, we asked for a critical reflection on design education in Portugal, based on three topics: 1. Observation – contextual reflection design education in Portugal; 2. Critical analysis – critical reflection on the existing model followed (research, partnerships, competitions/teaching etc.); 3. Future – perspectives on what should change (or be given priority) in design education, identifying active contributions towards effective improvement. In parallel to the meeting, the exhibition DesignOBS: For a Design Observatory in Portugal – situation1, was inaugurated, presenting the results of two years of observation of the design ecosystem in Portugal.
