Também se pode deslocar à farmácia com o intuito de esclarecer algumas dúvidas relacionadas com a medicação que lhe foi prescrita, após visita ao dermatologista.A queda de cabelo pode ter origem nas mais variadas etiologias, sendo papel do farmacêutico saber identificar a que se deve a situação, qual a etiologia presente e qual a melhor terapêutica a seguir. O farmacêutico deve ter em conta que existe uma elevada carga emocional associada a alterações psicológicas, normalmente relacionadas com alterações na noção de imagem própria. É papel dos farmacêuticos educar o doente sobre a etiologia da qual padece, tendo em conta o estado emocional do mesmo. Os farmacêuticos devem aconselhar sobre os tratamentos preventivos disponíveis no mercado ou tratamentos efetivos, em caso da patologia estar já num estado mais avançado, realçando quais os principais efeitos adversos. É importante que o doente compreenda que será um tratamento longo e que os primeiros resultados só aparecerão após cerca de 6 meses. O farmacêutico deve manter uma relação de proximidade ao longo do tratamento e estar consciente que, em alguma altura poderá ser conveniente haver um acompanhamento profissional à saúde mental do doente.Pharmacies are often the first place where the Portuguese people go when they have health problems, being the Pharmacist, most of the times, the first contact between the citizen and the healthcare system.When dealing with hair loss, the patient usually is uncomfortable with the situation and seeks the pharmacy for information on the subject and what could be done to slow the progression or revert it. Patients may also go to the pharmacy in order to solve any doubts regarding the therapeutic regimen prescribed after consulting a dermatologist.Hair loss may be caused by several different etiologies and it’s the pharmacist role, when called upon, to know how to differentiate them, try to find out what caused the illness and which is the best therapeutic to follow.The Pharmacist should take in consideration that there is a high emotional burden associated to psychological changes, usually related to changes in self-image.It is the Pharmacists’ role, when counseling, to educate the patient about his pathology, having in mind the emotional status of the same. Pharmacists should advise about preventive treatments available in the market or about effective treatments, and in case the disorder is at a more advanced state, making clear about adverse effects of the therapy.
