Resumo: In the second half of the 18th century, Porto lived one of the richest periods regarding architecture, particularly in the field of urbanism. Having the city acquired in the first half of the century an image deeply marked by the Baroque, which still characterizes it, during the second half of the century it launched the bases for modernity through a variety of trends in the field of architecture and through urban transformations that took place at that time. Porto was one of the most important centers of urban intervention in Portugal across the second half of 18th century. With the history of this renewal process already known, we want now to focus on some innovative aspects that João de Almada e Melo brought to the city, which made him one of the most important figures of the history of the Port.
