Cinematographic writings of Karim Ainouz: script, migratory transits and literary archives in the ¢lm Suely in the sky (2016)

This paper proposes reflections about the characteristics of the cinematographic writings of screenwriter and film director, Karim Aïnouz, from the look at the feature film Suely in the sky (2006). The film, whose initial argument was in Rifa-me (a short film directed by Aïnouz in 2000), presents a contemporary dialogue in what encompasses the “interlacing” of cinematographic form and content, evidenced by the creative sums between literary language and cinema that makes it impossible to dissociate the influence of one in the other, both in the execution of the script and the imagery and sound contents highlighted in the production. And through the choices of plot and imagery approach, illuminated by what can be called archiving contemporary dynamics and social actions, Karim Aïnouz values the historical contradictions of the low-income population of the Northeast of Brazil as a way to fight, resist, and evidence peoples which are traditionally made invisible by history and, at the same time, threatened by the cultural constructions that stitch together their origins and their destinies.
