Resumo: "Within the central nervous system, microglial cells are key regulators of a set of inflammatory processes. The microglial inflammatory response is the main contributor to the process of neuroinflammation. Inside the brain, under certain abnormal conditions, a sustained microglial activation may lead to an exacerbation of the inflammatory state, causing chronic pathological conditions such as neurodegeneration.
