This entire article is structured ar ound the relationship between the motherhood of Mary and the maternal dimension of the Church, which has Mary one of themost wonderful images. In a first moment, it is said that the divine motherhood of Mary outlines the challenge of a Church that must live from the incarnation and in an incarnation mode. Then, reflecting on Mary’s maternal cooperation in the divine economy, this reality is pointed out as normative for a motherly Church that makes itself transparent to God as a distinctive reality of its identity. The author, subsequently, discusses the sense in which Mary’s motherhood can be a stimulus, both to the experience of faith in the path of Jesus and to a maternal form of evangelization. Penultimately, the motherhood of Mary is mentioned as a hinge between the action of the Spirit and the motherhood of the Church as something that is inherent to the fidelity to that same Spirit. Finally, the motherhood of Mary is pointed out as an incitement to the ecclesial attention to those who suffer the most and are more in need.
