This work deals with the consequences that even today, after independence, are still present in most countries. The main goal of this dissertation is to show how literature tries to bring these matters to light. For the development of this dissertation, the documentary research will be focused on the study of Jamaica Kincaid´s novel Lucy (1990)1. This novel will be analysed in depth in order to identify how this North American author deals with and reveals the consequences of postcolonial experience and hybrid culture throughout this novel. This analysis will also be carried out by taking into account other documentary resources with the aim of introducing some of the key arguments and problems of postcolonial theory proposed by the main theorists of postcolonial, such as Said (1978)2, Bhabha (1994)3, Spivak (1990)4, and Hall (1990)5. Chapter I will contain the description of the bibliographical profile of Jamaica Kincaid and will continue in Chapter II with the study of the historical context of the postcolonial experience, and the origins of hybrid culture in the colonies. Finally, in chapter III, the postcolonial experience and hybrid culture will be identified and analysed in Jamaica Kincaid´s novel Lucy and our main conclusions will be pointed out.Este trabajo se enfoca en las consecuencias de la experiencia postcolonial, específicamente en la discriminación, desigualdad, diáspora, y la cultura híbrida con sus problemas de identidad, en la vida de los individuos de las naciones que fueron antiguas colonias, las cuales aún hoy, luego de su independencia, siguen presentes, y cómo la literatura intenta traer éstas a la luz. En el desarrollo de esta disertación, la investigación documental estará enfocada en la novela de Jamaica Kincaid Lucy (1990)6, la cual será analizada a profundidad a los fines de identificar cómo esta autora estadounidense revela las consecuencias de la experiencia postcolonial y la cultura híbrida a través de esta novela. El análisis será realizado tomando en cuenta otros recursos documentales con el objetivo de introducir algunos de los argumentos y problemas clave de la teoría postcolonial propuestos por los principales representantes postcoloniales como Said (1978)7, Bhabha (1994)8, Spivak (1990)9, and Hall (1990)10. El capítulo I contendrá la descripción del perfil bibliográfico de Jamaica Kincaid, continuando con el estudio del contexto histórico de la experiencia postcolonial, y el origen de la cultura híbrida en las colonias en el capítulo II.
